The missing piece of your email strategy

Weekly newsletter brought to your inbox every Wednesday, by your friends at Elite Blog Academy®—full of valuable marketing tips, tricks and inspiration to help you keep pushing forward when the days get long.

How to fail at blogging

Back in 2014, Elite Blog Academy® was born out of a need for clear, step-by-step guidance on how to succeed in blogging and online business. Our founder, Ruth Soukup, had heard the same question many times: "Can you just tell me, step by step, what I have to do to be successful?" And so, EBA® was designed to provide that roadmap for success.

But you know what nobody asks, but really should? How to fail at blogging. It might not be the most inspiring topic, but it's an important one. After teaching over 15,000 students, we've seen it all—the success stories and the failures too. Some of our students have built thriving businesses, while others got stuck, got distracted or gave up before they even started.

The truth is, that failure isn't just a matter of luck or choosing the wrong niche. There are significant differences between those who succeed and those who don't, and we want to help you understand why.

So if you’re looking for step-by-step instructions on how to fail at blogging…look no further.

POWER MOVES

The power is in the newsletter

If you’re looking to start or grow your online business—we have one question for you. How is your email list going?

Having an email list is one of the most essential pieces of your business. It gives you access to your people no matter what happens to the platforms you may be using to reach them. If Instagram shuts you down, or Tiktok somehow disappears tomorrow—your business may feel the impact, but it won’t die. You own your email list.

So what happens when someone gets on your list? How are you nurturing the relationship? Getting to know them more, while also showing them you’re the expert they need to solve the problem they came to you for?

The best way to nurture your email list on an ongoing basis is with a weekly newsletter. (Like this one!)

So what makes having a newsletter so powerful?

Your newsletter is the perfect way to develop a deeper relationship with your audience. By delivering valuable content straight to their inboxes, you can build a sense of community and trust, which is crucial for long-term engagement.

It’s also a great way to establish credibility. Your newsletter is the perfect place to highlight your expertise and exclusive insights into your niche. By mixing valuable content with personal stories you’re helping readers to like, know and trust you.

And when it comes to connecting with your readers, your newsletter is full of valuable data and analytics that will give you even more insight into what they’re looking for. Understanding open rates, click-through rates and subscriber behavior can help you tailor future content to better resonate with your audience.

If you’re ready to connect with your email list in a more impactful way, it’s time to add a newsletter to your email marketing strategy.

5 steps to creating your newsletter:

  1. Name your newsletter. Choose something that appeals to your target customer, and conveys what the newsletter is about.

  2. Give your newsletter a tagline. This will help show exactly what your newsletter can solve for them.

  3. Choose your categories. This creates consistency for your readers and shows them what to expect each week.

  4. Decide your layout. Opt-in to other newsletters to see what you like and don’t like, and then have fun building!

  5. Send your newsletter! If you already have an ESP, you can build and send your newsletter there. There are also newsletter platforms that make it so easy to get started.

If you’re just getting started and looking for a newsletter platform—we are using and loving Beehiiv. It was created specifically for newsletters and is so easy to get started and use. They even have built-in monetization options! You can sign up for their free trial to see if it’ll work for your business, but we highly recommend it!

MINDSET MATTERS

Overcoming self-doubt

No one ever said the online business journey would be easy. There’s one struggle practically everyone has dealt with—self-doubt. And so often we see it being the thing holding our students back from taking action.

If you too have struggled with self-doubt, you’re in good company! It’s something we all face, no matter our experience or level of expertise. But it doesn’t have to hold you back.

Here are some strategies to help you overcome self-doubt and regain your confidence:

  • Practice self-compassion: Embrace your humanity and acknowledge that making mistakes is part of the game. Treat yourself with the same kindness you'd offer a friend going through a tough time.

  • Identify limiting beliefs: Pinpoint those negative thoughts that hold you back, and then change them. Replace them with empowering beliefs that move you forward.

  • Reflect on your achievements: Look back at all you’ve already overcome, and your past accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem. You’ve done big things before, and you’re capable of so much!

  • Surround yourself with support: Seek out those who uplift and inspire you. Whether it's a mentor, a supportive community, or a spouse or friend, having a strong support network can work wonders.

  • Embrace positive self-talk: Be your own cheerleader! When you catch yourself thinking something negative, ask yourself if you’d say those same things to a friend. Treat yourself with the same love and compassion!

Remember, embracing these strategies isn't just about overcoming self-doubt; it's about nurturing your entrepreneurial spirit and unleashing your full potential. Keep pushing forward no matter how hard the road may seem.

MARKETING FUN FACT

The average person spends approximately 2 years of their life on social media. This includes time spent scrolling through feeds, posting updates and engaging with content. While this may sound alarming, it also highlights the importance of having your brand presence on the social media channel where your target audience hangs out.
